After few months of speculations and multiple rumors that the whole project is cancelled Pokemon GO is finally available for Apple watch saving you the trouble of permanently looking at your phone, but there’s a catch
You Still Need your Phone
To actually catch Pokemon, you’ll still need your phone.
The Apple Watch version is more of a companion app that tracks your steps (they’ll even count towards your Apple Watch fitness goals),
helps you stock up on Pokemon-catching items, and sends notifications to your wrist when there’s a Pokemon nearby.
Here’s a full list a of App features according to the developers:
- Log each play session as a workout, with gameplay counting toward personal Activity rings
- Receive notifications about nearby Pokémon
- Count distance toward hatching Pokémon Eggs and receiving Candy with your Buddy Pokémon
- Receive notifications about PokéStops nearby and collect items from them
it’s worth to note that this took too long to come with multiple cancellation rumors,
and still more rumors about the future of wearable devices related to Pokemon,
as Niantic is developing it’s own watch after an apparent change of plans,
the rumors were that full application should be available on Apple watch and similar devices a few months after the initial App release, and you really can’t blame them.
Niantic had really bumpy start with multiple app bugs and the constant failure of servers on release.
Niantic addressed some of these issues others were completely ignored and others had disastrous solutions,
like the tracking bug which was solved by cancelling the whole feature.
although Pokemon go remain to this day the most downloaded App on stores,
but this did some heavy damage as the player base has never recovered and never reached the same popularity as the one on initial release.
